Tolerance - To What Extent

 

    I believe that the Gorean Philosophy speaks to mankind in general.  It is the genetic predisposition which is inherent in all of us.  Gorean Culture is the representation of those beliefs.  The path for this representation is not one all will accept.  However, it is inappropriate to exclude those who wish to ask questions simply because they do not snap to adherence immediately.  Those folks who do, may be whimsical in nature, or in need of an environment which helps them temporarily.  The men and women who will benefit the community are going to ask questions, and make a decision to join the community after some thought and understanding.  This requires the tolerance the Tavern is prepared to offer.

 

    The tolerance we offer is the tolerance to gain enough information and understanding in order for those individuals to make a decision on joining the community.  If you find that you have enough information, and you do not believe that the expression of Gorean beliefs is yours, then I wish you well, and the Gorean Tavern is not the place you are looking for.

 

    This is a balancing act to help guide people to a right path for them.  This is not a call to arms for others to assess and pass judgment on whether someone is "worthy" of being in the Tavern, that is at my discretion.  Speaking for the Tavern is disrespectful of my right to the decision making for the Tavern.  This goes for all who enter, unless there has been a specific conversation with Thalin about this topic.

Discussions
    
    The Tavern is predominantly a discussion channel, however there is some light role play and banter as well.  It is a relaxed environment, and we have had several very controversial topics discussed at length without the abusive comments often seen.  We do this intentionally, and if you see a conversation begin to be fueled with emotion to the point where it is no longer productive, I ask that you begin to de-escalate if possible and save the rest of the discussion for another night.

 

    We have a bot which will provide topics with the command "!topic".  It is not necessary to draw topics from this bot.  If you have something you would like to discuss, almost all topics are welcome.  We try to keep them relevant to the Gorean Philosophy and  Culture, but we welcome all D/s related conversation.  The idea again is to keep the purpose for discovering and sharing some of the "whys" behind the "whats" that we believe and do.  This helps us all understand and make better choices for our own paths.

Sadism & Masochism

 

    The Tavern is not a haven for the practices of Sadism.  While we may welcome topics on Sadism, it is not a channel which promotes Sadism as an expression of dominance or Gorean Philosophy.

             
Channel Zones

 

    I do not believe in the use of IRC channel "zones" for Gorean channels.  I believe that men who have a deep understanding of Gorean Philosophy will act appropriately.  I retain the right to disallow the forced ownership within the Tavern.  It is not a free for all, act like jackasses channel by any means.

        

Men & Protocol

 

    Men should be seen as well above most protocol.  As stewards of the Gorean community, it should be expected that Gorean men have the capacity to make on the spot decisions which may or may not uphold a standard protocol.  All men are opped for a reason, and it is their descretion when a situation may head an alternate path than a standard or Tavern specific protocol.  Abide, and ask for clarity appropriately.  Keep the snide comments and judgmental expressions for some other arena.  If there is a serious discrepancy between what you believe took place, and a path of integrity, please feel free to contact me so we can discuss.

 

 

Free Men

 

Become Stewards

            

    We expect men to represent the level of integrity which offers a sense of leadership to all through right speech, and right action.  What is right can be argued for eternity, but some things are universal.  When you enter the establishment of another (text based venue, or offline residence), respect it.  Respect the views of the Tavern, and refrain from inflammatory remarks about its views.  Discussing points of view which conflict with my views is never an issue.  However, condemnation as a one way conversation and antagonistic approaches are not going to be tolerated.  If you feel strongly that the Tavern does not represent the Gorean Philosophy you have come to believe, and you think little of how its run ... then simply find a channel which matches the atmosphere you believe in.

     
Respect the Ownership of Others

 

    Along with those sentiments, respect the ownership of others.  I do not care if you feel someone's ownership is baffling or idiotic.  Speak to the owner privately, not to his slaves, and not in open channel.  It is not the place to force ridicule on others, and if you can not respect a man's right to guide someone who has offered him the submission of their decisions, then you do not understand what Gorean beliefs are about.  This does not mean that in extreme abusive and dangerous ownership situations should be ignored.  Use your judgment as men.

Exchange Ideas to Understand - Not For the Intent to Persecute

 

    Be wise enough to seek and understanding of your beliefs and others.  There is a saying that most people listen to reply, I challenge you all to listen to understand.  If you can not repeat in your words the beliefs of another, how can you expect to be in a position to evaluate?  Leading with questions is a very helpful tool.

Abuse Versus Moderation

 

    Property in general are not a free pass for abuse.  If you walked into my home and didn't like that my dog refused to come to you when called, then you walked over and put your foot on its neck, I would put you to a fucking wall.  Don't do it to other people's property in the Tavern, especially while their owner is present.  Have the respect to speak directly to their owner so they can make the corrections and be accountable for their ownership.  I am also not asking you to accept insolent slaves or free women.  If there is a case to educate, feel free.  If there is a need to remove them do so.  I would ask then you at least offer me some heads up (perhaps memoserv or next time you see me online) so I know how to respond to questions.  However, that's why you all have ops.

Using Your OPs Status

 

    Please feel free to op all free men and offer voice to all free women.  You may moderate the channel (+m to mute) when there is a discussion between men and slaves are interfering with good conversation.  You are not given OPs status in order to kick or ban other men in the channel, unless they are specifically a detriment to the Tavern or its visitors.  As an example, someone spamming the channel, being exceptionally abusive, or inappropriately making use of their OPs.

 

 

Free Women

 

 Invited & Welcomed

 

    You are given voice in the Tavern (+v) and can request it from any OP when you enter.  You are permitted to speak during discussions and are invited to join the Tavern feeling welcomed in your station as free without the expectation of being harassed.  If you are a nusance or decide that it is time to become beligerent, expect that you may be asked to leave, or removed from the channel.  Understand where you are, be respectful as well and know your place.

 

Discussions

 

    Please feel free to bring up discussion topics as you wish.  You are also welcomed to request the channel be moderated (+m - muted for property) for a specific reason when you believe it would be appropriate.  The men in the channel will listen to your request and make a decision.

            

Appropriate Behavior

 

    We allow for a light sense of flirtation, and a relaxed environment.  If you act like a slut, you can be expected to find your owner.  If you fail to recognize this chosen path for you when you are severely inappropriate, then you can expect to be asked not to return.  This is not a good path to take to find ownership in the Tavern.  Personally I would rather take your freedom and give you to the next jackass that enters the Tavern if you are looking for ownership in this manner.

     If anything has been unclear, or left unsaid then it is your obligation to seek the answers, not ours to identify what unanswered questions are causing you grief.  Speak up and you'll most likely get the information you are looking for.
